Painting
Interior and exterior paint with the prep that makes it last.
Paint is the part of a project everyone sees, and the part most often rushed. A fresh coat over poor prep looks great for a season and then starts peeling.
We scope interior and exterior painting with the prep spelled out in writing, so you know what you’re getting. Our crews take the time to do it right, and we can recommend low-VOC paints for occupied homes.
When it’s time
- Paint is peeling, blistering or chalking off when you rub it.
- Bare wood is showing on trim, siding or fascia.
- Interior walls are scuffed, stained or patched in mismatched colors.
- Caulk joints are cracked open around windows and doors.
When you don’t: One faded wall or a few scuffs can often be touched up. If the existing paint is still bonded and protecting the surface, we’ll say so.
How we do it
Wash, scrape, sand and repair surfaces before any paint goes on.
Replace failed caulk and spot-prime bare wood.
Protect floors, furniture, plants and fixtures.
Walk the finished job with you before we call it done.
Good to know
Prep is most of the job
Paint fails when it goes over dirt, chalk, loose paint or bare wood. A well-prepped wall with good paint will outlast a better paint over poor prep.
Low-VOC paint
Low-VOC and zero-VOC paints release far fewer fumes, which matters inside occupied homes. Quality versions now cover and wear as well as conventional paint.
Sheen matters
Flat hides wall flaws but marks easily. Eggshell and satin clean up better in living areas. Semi-gloss suits trim, doors and bathrooms.
What hail and wind do
Hail chips and pocks exterior paint and stain, especially on trim, doors and fences, and interior leaks leave water stains on ceilings and walls. If storm damage is found, it may be covered depending on your policy. Your insurance company makes that decision.
Questions
How often should I repaint the outside of my house?
It depends on sun exposure, material and the last paint job. In Central Texas, south- and west-facing walls fade and fail first. Siding commonly needs repainting every several years, and trim often sooner. We look at how the existing paint is holding up rather than going by the calendar.
Can you paint over water stains on my ceiling?
Yes, once the leak is fixed and the drywall is dry and sound. Water stains bleed through regular paint, so we seal them with a stain-blocking primer first. If the drywall is sagging or soft, it needs to be repaired or replaced before painting.
Do I need to move out during interior painting?
Usually not. We work room by room, protect your belongings and use low-VOC paints that keep fumes to a minimum. Most families stay home during interior painting. We’ll plan the order of rooms with you so the parts of the house you need stay usable.
